Orthotics Q & A

What are orthotics?

Orthotics are medical devices fitted for your specific foot. They're one of the most effective solutions for a variety of deformities and pain-causing conditions within your feet and ankles.

TRU Foot and Ankle uses the latest cutting-edge orthotics system, Go4-D®, to create the very best in highly personalized prescription orthotics.

When are orthotics prescribed?

Orthotics are frequently part of a treatment plan for conditions such as:

  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Bursitis
  • Neuromas
  • Fallen arches (flatfoot)
  • Cavus feet (high arches)
  • Foot and ankle arthritis
  • Achilles tendinitis
  • Bunions
  • Hammertoe
  • Foot ulcers, as part of your diabetic foot care

Dr. Khadavi may also prescribe orthotics if you're an athlete who wants to perfect your gait and maximize your function for peak physical performance.

What is the process of getting orthotics?

At TRU Foot and Ankle, Dr. Khadavi uses the Go4-D® orthotics system. Instead of a messy plaster mold, Go4-D uses a state-of-the-art laser scanner to capture extremely precise digital measurements of your feet.

You also walk across a "gait plate" that reveals exactly where you exert pressure as you move. It captures every stage of your gait cycle to show your center of gravity, hot spots, pressure points, and other factors that can reveal what's causing pain or function issues.

Combining this digital information allows Dr. Khadavi to create extremely personalized orthotics to stop your pain or correct your issues.

He sends the information to a 3D printer, which then fabricates a one-of-a-kind orthotic device just for you. The 3D printer even inscribes your name on the orthotic.

How are custom orthotics better than store-bought orthotics?

Custom orthotics are for your specific feet, while store-bought orthotics are essentially one-size-fits-all.

Over-the-counter orthotics might give you a little bit of cushioning or support, at least until their inevitable break down, but they're not medical devices and thus aren't appropriate for treating medical problems.

Go4-D orthotics are the best in premium orthotics. They have a honeycomb structure with multiple zones. Each zone has a different firmness and flexibility based on your individual foot.

If you’re hurting with every step or even have irritating foot pain once-in-a-while, there’s no reason to keep suffering. The 3D orthotics technology at TRU Foot and Ankle can help you take control of your life and reclaim full foot function.
